One clean sheet of fabric that rolls away almost completely. The simplest window covering there is, and the most versatile, from soft light filtering to true blackout.

In short. A roller blind is a single piece of fabric on a tube. It rolls up into a compact roll at the top of the window and unrolls to cover the glass. The fabric you choose decides everything else, from barely tinted daylight through to a fully dark bedroom.
Almost every decision with a roller blind comes down to the fabric. We group them into three bands, and the right one depends entirely on the room.
Softens daylight and takes the edge off glare while keeping the room bright. You get daytime privacy from the street but the fabric still glows. This is the usual choice for living rooms, kitchens and dining rooms.
A denser weave that cuts most of the light without being fully opaque. A good middle option for a family room where you want to watch something during the day, or a bedroom where you do not need total darkness.
An opaque fabric with a backing that blocks light through the material entirely. Some light will still come around the edges of any roller blind, which is physics rather than a fault. If you need the maximum, we fit the blind inside a deeper reveal or add a side channel, and we will talk you through that at the measure.
Winnipeg homes built in the last twenty years often have very wide living room windows, sometimes three panels across. A single roller blind that wide gets heavy and can sag, so we build them as separate blinds on a shared headrail. From the room they read as one clean line across the window, but each section operates independently and none of them are under strain.
Blackout in a bedroom is the single most common reason people call us. If that is your situation, mention it when you book. We will bring blackout samples to the measure and check the window reveal depth, because how deep the frame is decides how dark we can get the room.
Roller blinds are available with a chain, as a cordless system, or motorized with a remote, wall switch or app. On a high or hard to reach window, motorizing is usually worth it. On a wide bank of windows, one remote moving all of them together saves a genuinely annoying daily chore.
We manufacture roller blinds here in Winnipeg to the measurements we take in your home. The same team installs them. Nothing is ordered in a standard size and trimmed to fit.

Roller Blinds
Roller BlindsThe fabric itself blocks light completely, but a small amount will always come around the edges of any roller blind. How much depends on how deep your window reveal is and how the blind is mounted. At the free measure we check the reveal and can suggest an inside mount or a side channel if you want the darkest possible result.
A roller blind is one continuous fabric, so it is either open or closed. A zebra blind has alternating sheer and solid bands, which gives you a middle position with filtered light and privacy at the same time. Roller blinds win on blackout and simplicity, zebra blinds win on flexible daytime light.
For wide spans we normally build several blinds on a shared headrail rather than one oversized blind. It looks like a single line across the window but avoids the sag and weight problems that come with a very wide single roller.
Cordless and motorized roller blinds have no hanging chain at all, which is the safest option in a home with young children or pets. We can build any roller blind either way.
