Blind Measuring & Installation in Winnipeg

The measuring is the hard part, not the fitting. We take the measurements, build to them and come back to install, so there is nobody to pass blame to in between.

In short. Most problems with a blind trace back to the measurement rather than the installation. When one company measures, another manufactures and a third fits, an error at any stage becomes somebody else's problem. We do all three, so it does not happen.

Why measuring is the part that goes wrong

A blind is built to a number. If that number is out by half a centimetre on an inside mount, the blind either will not go in or leaves a visible gap down one side. Windows are also rarely square. The correct measurement is not one width, it is the narrowest of three widths taken at the top, middle and bottom, and the same again for the drop.

That is why we measure rather than asking you to. It is not a lack of trust. The tolerances are tighter than most people expect, and if the number is ours then the cost of being wrong is ours too.

What actually happens at the measure

  • We look at each room and ask how you use it, not just what you want to buy
  • Light direction, glare, privacy from the street and reach all get checked
  • Every window measured at three points for width and three for drop
  • Reveal depth checked, which decides whether an inside mount is even possible
  • Fabric samples viewed in your own light, which never matches a showroom
  • A written quote, with no obligation to go ahead

What happens at the install

Installation is usually the quick part. A straightforward roller blind takes minutes. What takes time is the awkward ones: high windows, plaster walls, steel lintels, and anything where the frame has moved out of square.

Older Winnipeg homes often have plaster over lath rather than drywall, and it does not hold a fixing the same way. Newer builds sometimes have a steel lintel above the window that an ordinary screw will not go into. We carry fixings for both and check what we are drilling into before starting.

Do you need to be home? Yes for the measure, because the recommendations depend on how you use each room. For the install someone needs to let us in and be there at the end to check you are happy, but you do not need to hover.

Cleaning up

Drilling makes dust. We put down protection, vacuum afterwards and take the packaging away with us. It is a small thing, and it is the thing customers mention most often afterwards.

If something is not right

Because we made the blind, a problem is ours to fix rather than something to escalate to a supplier in another province and wait. One number to call, and the same people who measured it come back to sort it.

Measuring & Installation Questions

You can, and if you want to we will tell you exactly how. But we measure as standard because the tolerances are tighter than most people expect, windows are rarely square, and if the measurement is ours then a mistake is ours to fix rather than yours to pay for.

A straightforward roller blind takes a few minutes. A full house takes a few hours. Awkward windows, high ceilings and plaster walls add time. We give you a realistic window when we book rather than an optimistic one.

Someone needs to let us in and be there at the end to check the work. You do not need to watch the whole thing.

It depends on the mount. An inside mount usually fixes into the top of the reveal, an outside mount into the frame or the wall above. We check what is behind the surface first, because older Winnipeg homes often have plaster over lath and newer ones sometimes have a steel lintel.

Most are, slightly. We measure at three points and build to the narrowest so the blind fits. If a window is badly out we tell you at the measure and explain what it will look like, rather than surprising you on install day.
